Jila Behnad is the creator and main instructor of this unique course, and has held multiple Can You See Me workshops since 2016. Here is the story behind the creation of the workshop, in her own words:

“I am an Iranian American therapist and I came to the US more than twenty years ago. The first few years I struggled a lot, but that pain motivated me to become a therapist.

After I got my MFT license, I started a non-profit mental health organization in Northern California for Iranian-Americans (Raha). We help clients and providers find each other, we have public seminars and workshops about parenting, relationship, anxiety, … and we also have workshops for providers.

I noticed that I am always faced with the same question: Can you see me? Can you see Jila, outside of labels like Iranian, middle eastern, minority, foreigner, Muslim, terrorist, third world country, … Can you see myself?

So, I started to talk about it and eventually created a course I called, Can You See Me?”

All the proceeds from this course are donated to Raha Foundation.
